The next generation of life Saving appliances and systems for SAFE and swift evacuation operations on high capacity PASSenger ships in extreme scenarios and condition (SafePASS) project will radically redefine the evacuation processes, evacuation systems/equipment and international regulations for passenger ships in all environments.

Crowd Dynamics have developed a state-of-the-art software system which optimises the evacuation process aboard ships through the receiving of data from smart sensors or wearable technology such as smart wristbands, and optimisation of evacuation routes based on the continually changing situation on board. The system also takes into account demographics and family groups in this process, to ensure the simulations are as realistic as possible. The aim of the project is to reduce the time it takes to evacuate a ship, vastly increasing safety and efficiency.

Partnering with other research associations including the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Strathclyde, EXUS, Telesto and Diginext alongside leading industry partners such as RINA, Viking and Royal Caribbean Cruises, the consortium is working together to push the state of the art and collaboratively come up with a solution which will reshape the way the evacuation process occurs on board ships for the benefit of passengers, staff and the industry as a whole.
