Space Utilisation (Spatial Analysis)

One of the most critical factors in designing places of public assembly is how the crowd uses the available space. We developed an analysis tool within Myriad to assess the probability of conflict (where two or more people are in conflict for the same area - such as a high density bi-directional flow). The following photographs show the nature of the problem.

Modelling Extreme High Density

Predicting these areas and their problems BEFORE the crowd is exposed to this potentially hazardous environment was the main reason behind the development of our Myriad analysis tools. During the Jamarat Bridge project (the site of many accidents involving the death of many hundred of pilgrims over the years). We developed a range of risk analysis techniques to redesign aspects of the bridge (specifically the location of pressure release points, the removal of high density cross flow and conflict area and improve the space utilisation).

Myriad II produces high resolution colour graphics (for reports and presentations) that highlight levels of service, probability of conflict and space utilisation. Coupled with the spatial analysis we produce complex agent based models.
